Docora user guide
Practical steps for reading, OCR, podcasts, Full Cast, learning and sync, with the settings to choose and ways to check your results.
User Guide
Practical instructions from opening a file to checking the saved result. Each chapter gives the command path, required choices, procedure, expected result and follow-up checks.
This guide follows the desktop interface. The device handoff chapter also covers the mobile app. Press F1 in Docora for help with the current workspace.
Example: read a book over several sessions, keep a quote and return to its page.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Home → Open File → Reader window. Alternatively, select a document in the Library and choose Open.
- Before you begin
- Have a file available on your device. Use a familiar document so you can check navigation and the saved quote.
Choose the right settings
- Panel
- Opens the document sidebar. Use Bookmarks for saved positions and Quotes for passages you want to keep.
- Plain text
- Displays the text layer for text-focused reading. Return to the image view to inspect the original page.
Follow these steps
- On Home, choose Open File and select the book. Wait for the page and page count to appear.
- Use the page navigation to reach a particular page, or search for a phrase you know the book contains.
- Open Panel → Quotes and choose Add Quote on the required page. Enter the passage and note in the dialog and save them.
- Open the saved quote from its list to check that it returns to the correct page.
- Close and reopen the document. To return to your latest work from Home, choose Continue where you left off.
Check the result
The book opens at its saved reading position and the quote appears in that document. Open another document if you want to check that quote lists belong to individual documents.
Follow-up checks
- When the document has no contents outline
- Use search or a page number to reach the passage. The outline depends on the structure of the source file.
- When there is no text to search
- Follow the scanned-page instructions in this guide, then try searching after OCR.
Example: read or search the text on one page of a scanned PDF.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Open the document in the Reader, then use the OCR button in the reading window toolbar.
- Before you begin
- OCR requires an internet connection and a service available to your account. Check one page before processing a long document.
Choose the right settings
- OCR this page
- Processes the page you are viewing. Use it to check recognition quality or extract a particular passage.
- OCR entire document
- Processes every page. Choose it from the OCR button menu when you need all the text.
Follow these steps
- Open the file and go to the required page.
- Press the OCR button. For a multi-page document, choose OCR this page from the menu; a single-page document starts processing directly.
- Wait for the recognition result, then view the content in Plain text mode.
- Search for a clear word from the page image to check that it appears in the extracted text.
- Compare names and numbers against the image. After checking, you can request a summary or translation in the Reader.
Check the result
You can read and search the page text. Check another page before processing the entire document if scan quality varies between pages.
Follow-up checks
- When Docora asks you to choose an OCR service
- Open Settings → Online Services, select an OCR provider available to your account, then return to the page and retry.
- When the result contains no useful text
- Check image clarity and page orientation, then try a clearer page. Keep the source open for comparison rather than relying on unreadable output.
Example: turn an article into a conversation, listen to it and keep an audio file.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Listening → Audio Studio → Add File → Output Type: Podcast.
- Before you begin
- Prepare a document containing your material, an internet connection and an account with audio generation available. Start with a short source you know well.
Choose the right settings
- Host voice and Guest voice
- Set the two voices separately. Check each speaker rather than changing just one voice.
- Style and Length
- When generating a conversation from a document, Style sets the discussion format and Length sets the target duration. Match them to your material.
- Listen and Save
- Listen plays the result in the player; Save writes it to a file. Enable both to hear and keep the episode.
Follow these steps
- Open Listening and choose Add File. Select the document in Content Queue, then choose Podcast under Output Type.
- Choose the language and an available audio provider, then set Host voice and Guest voice.
- When generating a conversation from written material, set Style and Length. For example, choose the interview style for a question-and-answer conversation.
- Enable Listen and Save. Choose the audio format and output folder in the save controls before starting.
- Choose Generate and follow the task under Operations. When it completes, open Player and listen through the episode.
- Open the saved file from your output folder and check playback. Compare the episode with your source before sharing it.
Check the result
You have an episode in the player and an audio file in the chosen folder. Check that the file exists: choosing playback alone is different from enabling Save.
Follow-up checks
- When a scanned document provides no usable source text
- Under Text extraction, choose Force OCR — scanned documents, then generate the episode again.
- When the chosen audio provider is unavailable
- Choose another provider available to your account, if offered, and recheck both voices. For a temporary outage, try again later.
Example: give a narrator and two story characters distinct voices while keeping the source for review.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Listening → Audio Studio → Output Type → Full Cast.
- Before you begin
- Prepare the story document and decide between every word and a dramatic performance. Keep using the same document for later readings to return to its cast and voice assignments.
Choose the right settings
- Narrator voice
- Controls the narration. Character voices are managed under Characters and do not have to match the narrator.
- Performance under Advanced options
- Faithful reads every word. Dramatic trims cues such as “he said” when the voice makes the speaker clear.
- Characters
- Lists discovered characters and their document-specific voice assignments. The list develops during reading; use it to choose another voice for a character.
Follow these steps
- Add the story document to Content Queue, select it and choose Full Cast under Output Type.
- Choose the audio provider and Narrator voice. Open Advanced options and select the required Performance.
- Enable listening, saving or both. If saving, set the audio format and folder before generation.
- Choose Generate. Open Characters and follow the names appearing as the document is read.
- Listen to the passages and check that narration and dialogue are distinct. Note any character whose voice you want to change.
- For a later reading, return to the same document, assign another available voice under Characters, then start a new generation with your chosen settings.
Check the result
The reading has a narrator and character voices. The discovered cast is available when you select the document again. Changing a voice for a later reading does not rewrite an audio file already saved.
Follow-up checks
- When Characters is empty before the first run
- Start reading. Characters are discovered from the text; you do not need to enter a cast manually before the first generation.
- When you want the original dialogue cues kept
- Choose Faithful. Use Dramatic when distinct voices should replace redundant dialogue attributions.
Example: study a book using a lesson plan and quizzes that show what needs review.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Learning Center → New Course → choose the source and learning method.
- Before you begin
- Add the book to your Library and prepare a clear goal, such as understanding chapter one at beginner level. Course creation and generation use online services.
Choose the right settings
- From my book(s)
- Builds the curriculum from your material. Choose this source for the book you are studying and add at least one book.
- Read the lessons or Interactive tutor
- Reading provides lesson text. The interactive tutor teaches in steps with follow-up questions and uses more service allowance than reading.
- Require a pass before the next lesson
- Enable the lesson prerequisite if the next lesson should unlock only after passing the current one. Leave it off to choose your study order freely.
Follow these steps
- Open Learning Center and choose New Course. Select From my book(s) and add the book to the course materials.
- Set the goal, level and learning language. If you use Test me…, enter the subject or add the books first so the placement test has a source.
- Choose your learning method and check the lesson prerequisite setting. Choose Create Course and wait for the plan.
- Open the first lesson and choose Learn Lesson. Read the content or follow the interactive tutor, according to your selected method.
- After studying, open the quiz, answer the questions and read the explanations before continuing.
- On your next visit, reopen the same course to continue. Use Review Due when reviews become available.
Check the result
Your course appears with its lessons, progress and quiz results. Reopen it to continue the existing course rather than creating another copy.
Follow-up checks
- When the dialog asks for a book
- Add a file to the course book list, or switch the source to a subject if you do not want to work from a book.
- When the next lesson is locked
- Check the previous lesson quiz if you enabled prerequisites. Complete the requirement shown in the course, then open the next lesson.
Example: convert three PDFs into three separate Word files in one folder.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Converter → file list → select the required files → conversion options.
- Before you begin
- Have the source files and a writable output folder ready. Adding files to the list and selecting the files to run are separate steps.
Choose the right settings
- Target format
- Choose DOCX for this example. Settings belong to the selected input; review them when moving between different files.
- Separate Files or Merge into Single File
- Choose Separate Files for independent Word documents. When merging, set the combined filename rather than expecting one output per source.
- Use OCR
- Enable it for scanned PDF pages when you need text in the output. Review its settings before running.
Follow these steps
- Add the PDFs to Converter and select all three in the list. Having them listed alone is not the same as selecting them together.
- Choose DOCX under Target format and set the output folder. Check settings for the files you will run.
- Choose Separate Files. For a scanned input, check that OCR is enabled as needed.
- Check the start button: with multiple files selected, it displays the number to convert. Start when that number matches your selection.
- Follow each file result. Open a completed file folder from the results list and open the output to check its content.
- For a new task with new settings, choose New Conversion. To retry a failed file, select it and choose Retry after addressing the reported cause.
Check the result
Separate DOCX files appear in the output folder while the source PDFs remain. Compare the number of outputs with the number selected for the run.
Follow-up checks
- When only one file is converted
- Check the input selection. Select the files together and confirm their number on the conversion button before starting.
- When conversion cannot start
- Check the selected input, target format and output folder. Also read any explanation shown for account or allowance requirements.
Example: change a frequently used command shortcut, test it and restore the default if needed.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Settings → Shortcuts → find the command by searching or opening its category.
- Before you begin
- Choose a command whose location you know so you can still run it with the mouse while testing the new shortcut.
Choose the right settings
- Record Shortcut
- Waits for your key presses. Press the intended combination rather than typing its name as text.
- Reset
- Restores the selected command shortcut to its default. Use it to restore that command without resetting the whole list.
Follow these steps
- Open Settings → Shortcuts. Find the command using search or its category.
- Select the command to display its current keys and details.
- Choose Record Shortcut and press the intended key combination.
- If a conflict appears, read which command already uses the keys and choose another combination.
- Return to the command workspace and test it there. Press Ctrl+F1 to check the current shortcut reference.
- To undo your change, return to the same command in Settings and choose Reset.
Check the result
The command responds to the new keys in its proper context, and the assignment appears in the shortcut reference. F6 still moves between window regions.
Follow-up checks
- When the command does not run in another window
- Try it in its own workspace. Some commands need an open document or focus in a particular region.
- When the keys trigger a different action
- Review the conflict in Shortcuts and choose another combination. Reset the selected command if you want to start from its default.
Example: continue a lesson or reading session on your phone using the same account.
Link to this guide- Where to start
- Desktop and mobile apps → same account → Library or Learning Center.
- Before you begin
- Keep both devices online while retrieving data and transferring files. A document entry appearing in the Library does not mean its file has finished downloading.
Choose the right settings
- The same account on both devices
- Content is associated with your account. Compare the account email on both devices if the work looks different.
- Open the required document
- Retrieves the file on demand. Keep the device holding the source online until transfer finishes.
Follow these steps
- Check the signed-in account on your computer and sign in with the same account on mobile.
- Open the Library or Learning Center on your phone and wait for its content. Choose the current course or document.
- For a lesson, open it within the existing course to continue the recorded progress. You do not need another course just because you changed devices.
- For a document, open its Library entry and wait for the file download if it is not already on the phone.
- Keep the computer or other source device online until transfer completes, then open the document and check the reading position.
Check the result
You continue the lesson or document using the saved account data. For transferred files, check that the document opens fully before closing the source device.
Follow-up checks
- When course or Library lists differ
- Compare the account email on both devices and check connectivity. Reopen the Library or Learning Center to retrieve the content.
- When an entry appears but the file download does not finish
- Check that the device holding the file remains connected and available for transfer, then reopen the document on your phone.
